Foster Creativity, Play, and a Love of Nature

Join us for a season of curiosity and creativity as we explore the wonders of nature through process-based art and playful exploration. Our Spring Children’s Art & Curiosity Workshop is designed for young children and their caregivers to engage in open-ended, hands-on experiences that encourage a lifelong love of creativity and the natural world. One child per registration! Registration is per season and includes access to all 4 workshops. Workshops are held at Amethyst Retreat Center in Duncannon, PA.

Spring 2025 Workshop Themes + Dates
In each session, we’ll explore a different nature-inspired theme:

🌿 Project One: Making Nests 

  • 4/30 @  2:15-3:30pm
  • We’ll read about different types of bird nests, then use natural materials to build our own. The children can pretend to be birds and test their creations!

🐭 Project Two: Build a House for a Mouse 

  • 5/14 @ 2:15-3:30pm
  • Through storytelling, we’ll meet a mouse in need of a home. Using homemade play dough, natural materials, and Wiki Stix, we’ll construct cozy mouse houses together.

💃 Project Three: Communicating Through Movement 

  • 5/28 @ 2:15-3:30pm
  • After reading about animals that communicate through dance, children will search for hidden objects using movement-based clues—and then take turns leading their own searches!

🌳 Project Four: Tree Hugs

  • 6/11 @  2:15-3:30pm
  • Inspired by Spots by Diane Alber, children will paint trees using bubble wrap. Wearing white or old T-shirts, they’ll also “paint” their shirts by hugging their trees!
  • Please have your child attend dressed in an old white or light colored shirt.

Workshop Structure

Each session is 1 hour and 15 minutes long and includes:

  • An optional warm-up activity (such as collecting nature materials or searching for painted rocks).
  • A story or artist introduction that connects to our day’s theme.
  • A creative prompt that encourages children to explore and experiment.
  • Gentle guidance through open-ended questions like, “I wonder what would happen if…”
  • Time for reflection, conversation, and a snack (if desired).

Caregivers are encouraged to actively participate, modeling curiosity and creative play alongside their children.

Children's Art & Curiosity Workshops

What makes these workshops unique?

Unlike traditional children’s art classes that focus on creating a finished product, our workshops emphasize the creative process. Each class begins with a prompt, but where the experience leads is up to the children! All workshops take place outdoors and incorporate elements of nature, fostering curiosity, wonder, and community.

Who are these workshops for?

Children 18 months to 6 years old, accompanied by their parent or caregiver. Workshops are limited to 8 children per session (caregivers do not count toward the limit).

Where are the workshops held?

All sessions will be held at Amethyst Retreat Center, located at 44 Buffalo Creek Road, Duncannon, PA 17020.

What is your cancellation policy?

Enrollment is by season only. You can receive a full refund available up to two weeks before the season begins. No refunds can be given after this date.
